A lack of motivation is a common symptom of depression. It can also be linked to other mental illnesses, like anxiety.
I can get you motivated! Category: Mental Health Conditions: Motivation, Procrastination, Achieving Goals, Confidence Back to What I Treat Your mental health may be affecting your motivation level We all lose our ‘get up and go’ at times, but if you regularly find yourself lacking motivation then I can help you achieve the success you deserve - it's not as hard as you may think either!
When you regularly put off the tasks that you know you should be getting on with, you cause yourself extra stress and anxiety, de-motivate yourself for further tasks, damage your confidence and self-esteem, and are less likely to complete the tasks at all. If you do complete a task that you’ve procrastinated over there's now a greater chance that you won’t perform it as well as if you hadn’t procrastinated beforehand.
A lack of motivation happens for several reasons, including procrastination, a poor sense of purpose, and a lack of confidence that you will be able to complete tasks successfully. The good news is that all the reasons for lacking motivation are treatable. My therapies can help you create powerful new pathways in your subconscious mind that will move you from a place of no action to a heightened state of motivation, forever. Why do people lack motivation? Lacking motivation may feel like the problem, however, it is often the symptom of a bigger issue.
For example, if someone is a perfectionist, a lack of motivation may stem from the fear that they won’t complete a task to a high enough standard. Until they address the core issue, a need to be perfect, their motivation is unlikely to increase.
At other times, a lack of motivation may cause someone to procrastinate. And the more they procrastinate, the less motivated they feel. In this case, it’s crucial to address the reasons behind their procrastination since a lack of action is one of the main causes of a lack of motivation. Contrary to what you may think, it is almost always ‘taking action’ that comes before the feeling of being motivated, and not the reverse.
It is important therefore to consider why people have trouble taking action. Here are some common reasons for people’s lack of action, and hence a lack of motivation:
Being afraid of failing at the tasks they know need completing and not feeling prepared or good enough to do them.
Perfectionism and a feeling that rather than risk making a mistake at something, it's better not to do it at all.
Self-sabotage and placing barriers in their way as excuses to justify a potential failure.
A fear of judgement and receiving negative feedback.
A lack of commitment, often because of having vague goals or a lack of strategy to move towards them.
Giving way to activities that favour short-term gain vs. those that require more commitment but that come with greater long-term value.
Self-doubt and an inability to decisively make prompt decisions by overthinking instead of doing. This is akin to perfectionism or a lack of confidence.
Feeling overwhelmed at the sheer size of the task or expectation of others involved.
Feeling too tired to motivate and get on with things.
The sense of an ever-growing to-do list, no matter how hard you try and how many hours you apply to completing the tasks.
When people feel overwhelmed, whatever the reason, it has a spiralling effect. They feel guilty, inadequate, and depressed and self-doubt sets in. These added feelings and ensuing emotions further diminish someones ability to focus and work efficiently, and yes, a lack of motivation sets in too. Tell yourself a better story! Many of the clients I treat for motivation, procrastination, and goals issues, will tell me “I’m not the kind of person who can stick to anything; I always give up”. Upon hearing this, as I often do, I tell them it is simply a very bad story they are telling themselves, one that has led to a damaging belief. To treat a belief like this I use a very powerful therapy called Rapid Transformational Therapy™(RTT™). This therapeutic intervention helps my clients change their damaging belief forever, along with the patterns of behaviour that a belief like this creates. Action = Momentum = More action There is a great saying that captures the power of taking action, it says ‘If you want something done, ask a busy man or woman.’ This makes perfect sense because action creates momentum and a mindset that is motivated to do more. So, by choosing to commit to something that is going to make you feel like a winner and move you towards your goals, you must also choose to do something every day that takes you closer to those goals, you must take action. Do the things that successful people do, and you will become successful too When you do the things that successful people do, you unknowingly become more and more like them. This is very true when it comes to the habit of action. Committing to tasks every day in service of your dreams makes you feel like a winner, and once you feel like a winner, you begin to act differently and take on the air of a successful person and believe that you are successful. This can massively influence how other people treat you, how you treat yourself, and what opportunities you attract in your life. Become a motivation machine! Feeling motivated, stopping procrastinating, and achieving your goals may feel a long way off, or even impossible, but it needn’t be. I know that nothing in life influences you more than the beliefs that your mind links pleasure and pain to. That’s why I use the powerful effects of Rapid Transformational Therapy™(RTT™) and Hypnotherapy to help you change your beliefs so that you can break through the barriers and blockages that are preventing you from becoming the person you want to be. About Rapid Transformational Therapy™(RTT™) and Hypnotherapy RTT™ is a complete solution-based treatment, offering fast effective results by combining the most effective principles of Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy, NLP, CBT and Neuroscience.
